If you want a reliable treatment to straighten your smile, then you need to ask about traditional braces. In St. John, IN, you can use them to:They're still the most effective way to get a great smile Read Transcript
Traditional braces are still the gold standard for straightening and correcting bite problems because we can control the physics. It's really not dentistry, we're really doing physics on teeth versus even clear aligners like Invisalign retainers. We can get beautiful results many times with Invisalign, but you really can't get the detail finishes and results optimum that so many patients demand. So traditional braces is really the gold standard and the best way to go for the majority of patients who have really bite problems besides just crowded teeth.
Braces are smaller these days. They're not like your grandma's braces. We use titanium wires, which are 1/10 of the force of our old-fashioned steel wires that everybody used to complain about. You know, every time you saw the orthodontist, you can't eat for three days, that doesn't happen anymore. Again, a third of our practice are adults, and they don't even complain about the wires or pain any more because the titanium wires are so small, are so light forced, and the brackets are so small.
We also again use invisible retainers. So you go through that little bit of hassle to have braces done traditionally, but then there's no hassle once you're done after that 18 months, hopefully, with braces because retainers are invisible. You don't see a big metal bar on front. You don't talk funny with removable retainers. Our practice really exclusively uses bonded retainers because we know it's the best long-term result to keep you from needing braces later on down the road.

Whether you are looking for something to help your teen or are an adult interested in a straighter smile, braces can work wonders for you. Most adults who choose this option take a standard approach. Teens often enjoy choosing the color of the bands used with their braces. Some even mix and match colors as a way of expressing themselves during their treatment.
For many people, creating a pleasant smile is a big reason they want braces. At the same time, you should consider the oral health benefits of having straight teeth. When teeth are crowded or overlap one another, you may not be able to remove food particles, harmful bacteria, or plaque buildup when you brush and floss.
By getting your teeth in line, you can clean them more easily and reduce your risk of tooth decay and gum infections. In other words, you can be healthier by upgrading your smile.
Take Advantage of Our Advanced Technology
One of the ways you can improve your experience with braces is by using the advanced technology we offer. Our archwires are made with nickel titanium, the same material NASA uses for its satellites. This is combined with copper to created thermal NiTi wires. These have “shape memory,” which means they naturally try to return to their original shapes with the heat from your mouth. That process assists in moving your teeth and requires fewer wire changes at our office.
Most of the time, metal braces can correct your issues on their own. In some situations, surgical orthodontics may be needed to create conditions for a better smile.
