Relax and enjoy your time with us
When you come in for your first orthodontic appointment, what you’re going to do is get your braces installed that day. What we’re going to do is kind of just look over the chart, see what the doctor had prescribed for you, get that down, kind of explain a few things to you, what’s going on, and then we will start to place your brackets one by one. Every bracket has its own position and height, so we will be having you open and close a little bit.
That’s completely normal. It’s going to take a good about an hour to get everything done. We’ll get all your brackets on one by one, and then we’ll let you sit there for five minutes and dry, and then once that’s done, we’re going to tie your wires in.
Wires we use are super light. We actually refer to them as a wet noodle. They’re heat activated, so they move with your body heat, so they’re easy to tie in.
You’re generally sore a couple hours after that first appointment. You’re pretty good when you get them on. It feels a little bit tight, but no soreness.
We always instruct our patients to get something to eat when they leave, because you will be sore later on. We instruct them to take Tylenol, Motrin, whatever they take for any kind of headache or pain, but generally it’s pretty easy. You just need to sit there and relax, and we kind of just take the wheel and get everything on, and we’ll go over your kit at the end and explain all the goodies to you, and if there’s any questions, we’ll answer all those for you.
We like to be friends with our patients. We like to make them feel comfortable when they come in. It’s a fun atmosphere around here, so we like to get to know them, what’s going on in their lives and everything, and as soon as they come in, we can update.
They update us on what’s going on, and they know what’s going on with us and our families, and we like to make everybody that part of our family, and we want the kids to come and see us and tell us about their baseball game or their football game, and they made this team or whatever, so we love to have that be part of our day, you know, see all that.
